Transparency matters. Manifesto redundant. For Great Justice.

Small, cheap (disposable cheap) hardware widget that captures audio/video, automatically configures itself to attach to available wifi networks (including tethering to local phones), and uploads/archives captured data from incidents where transparency is important.

Features (MVP)

  • Audio Capture
  • Video Capture
  • Wifi Network connection
  • Reasonable battery life
  • Robust body
  • Cheap cheap cheap (disposable cheap)

Bonus Features (Version 2+)

  • GPS and date/time stamp
  • Cell Network uplink
  • Mesh network of pucks ( )
  • Alternate ISM bands (lower freq, better range/penetration, less congestion)
  • Burst network transmission
  • Server/relay to archive sites
  • Onboard buffer holds captured data until a network is available
  • "Smart" recording mode that saves bandwidth/buffer storage
  • Circular axis for use in compressed-air delivery
  • Water-resistant
  • Chemical-resistant

A notes on countermeasures: This is about cheap, [relatively] safe, [relatively] anonymous technology to record and document troublesome incidents. Coordinated countermeasures are beyond the scope of most of the places where this is useful.

  • Decoy uplinks that sequester the captured data
  • Jam the ISM bands

  • Agile / Jam-resistant frequency operation / multiband
  • Authentication protocol for archive hosts
  • Record with pre-authenticated local device for later upload (pair with a known-safe receiver before deploying)

Data dump begins:

  • Intended to be thrown and survive in a riot (Elastic contact surfaces, protected electronic and optical components)
    • Vulcanized rubber (recycled sourcing)
    • Relatively high-durometer silicone (moldable but expensive)
  • Non-threatening non-weapons-looking device
  • Easily identifiable as a transparency puck
  • Design for mass-production (cheap cheap) and distributed manufacturing (3d printer)
  • Self-righting
  • 3-segment 120-degree view concept:

Lens / Field of View
